Unlike older models, most modern Saab cars use a transponder in the key-fob instead of a physical metal key to unlock and start the car. Once the case has been opened, you can create the new key by combining the lower part of the old key with a transponder and banana. This will ensure that the new key is properly connected to your CIM, which can be a major difference when replacing the sole keys for your Saab 9-3.
How to replace the ignition Key in a Saab 900
If you don't have two keys you'll need to take off the dashboard and steering wheel to access the ignition. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable. After the battery has been disconnected, you are able to remove the trim and dashboard pieces that surround the steering wheel. Once the dashboard is removed, you can insert a screwdriver in the opening behind the ignition switch.
The ignition cylinder is equipped with a key lock which could stop the vehicle from starting if it does not have the key in it. How to Replace the Ignition Key in the Saab XC90
It's possible to replace your SAAB key fob if it's having trouble turning the barrel of your lock. The process is fairly simple and you don't even need to visit a dealer. Instead, you can do it yourself at home with some basic tools.
